Iphone 8 in Red glimpse

All  iPhone 8  rumors so far have shown off the color scheme trinity – White, Black and Gold - but now a new video shows a unit painted in a bold red color. This won’t be the first red iPhone but it will be the first time Apple offers a red unit from the get go. This video was sent to us by a tipster who says it was shot Guangzhou in what appears to be a showroom (or perhaps a QA facility). Interestingly, the iPhone 8 appears more burgundy and the iPhone 7 (7s?) behind it is a brighter red. And the gold color continues to not look like the precious metal, but closer to bronze Apple gives the impression that colors are for the mass market devices – be it iPhone 5c or a late generation iPod Touch. But will iPhone’s anniversary be a colorful one?

Siri, Google Assistant, Alexa Said to Be Vulnerable to New 'Dolphin Attack'

Image
Almost every other day researchers find new hacks to get into your smartphones, gadgets, and smart devices. Now, a group from China's Zheijiang University have found a new way to enter into your smartphones and open malicious websites and even gain access to connected smart devices if there are any using ultrasound frequencies. For this purpose, the hack takes advantage of what is known as the Dolphin Attack, where frequencies of over 20KHz are sent to a nearby smartphone to attack Siri, Google Assistant, Alexa, and other voice-based virtual assistants. Alexa   Siri Microphones on a smartphone can catch frequencies above 20,000Hz, something that humans cannot hear. Voice assistants are able to catch these frequencies and take commands accordingly, without the knowledge of the owner. Taking advantage of this, the researchers translated human voice commands into ultrasound frequencies, and then played them back using very cheap components. The parts include a regular sm

Lenovo announces K8 and K8 plus smartphones

Image
Lenovo has announced the K8 and K8 Plus smartphones . The Lenovo K8 Plus launch event has started, giving us the look at the latest smartphone in the company's new K8 series. The handset joins the growing list of smartphones with dual rear cameras with its 13-megapixel Purecell sensor and 5-megapixel depth sensor to deliver the bokeh effect. In the front of the smartphone is the 8-megapixel camera with 5-element lens, f/2.0 aperture and a selfie flash that the company is calling Party Flash. The selfie camera can shoot images in Pro Mode, Beautify Mode, and wide angle. K8 Plus sports a metallic body and comes in Venom Black and Fine Gold colour options. The coolest thing about both these new devices is that they ship with stock Android 7.1.1. Starting with the K8 Note, Lenovo has been shipping essentially the same version of stock Android that we have on Motorola devices. This means you get the unskinned version of Android with minimal Lenovo features and

Samsung patents bezelless design with a cutout for the selfie camera

Image
Samsung patent drawings showing a cutout for the camera The full screen design craze has gotten to the point where displays have covered all the blank bezels and are now pushing up against functional elements like the front camera. That’s the case for the Essential phone, the upcoming iPhone 8 and – going by this patent – the future Galaxy S and Note devices. The patent drawings show the display coming right up to the edge of the phone with a small cutout to leave room for the front camera, earpiece and assorted sensors. The cutout doesn’t seems as extreme as Essential’s or even the iPhone’s.   This patent was filed in South Korea on May 2016 – well before the designs of the other two became public. Does that mean that the Galaxy S9 will sport the “display cutout” look? It’s possible, but we wouldn’t bet the house on it – Samsung also patented an S Pen with a breathalyzer - sometimes patents are filed just in case. Source  |  Via

Xiaomi Mi A1 [Updated]

Image
UPDATE: Mi A1’s most distinctive feature is its software: it runs stock Android, not Xiaomi’s own MIUI layer, and is part of Google’s Android One program. Android One launched three years ago with a focus on India as Google aimed to codify the Android experience for low-end smartphones. It hasn’t been a huge success, but Google undoubtedly wants to expand the program to a wider range of products to ensure that people continue to have access to the latest versions of its software and services. To that end, the Mi A1 will get Android Oreo by the end of the year, and Xiaomi says it’ll be “one of the first” phones to get Android P — which we haven’t heard anything about — in 2018. Xiaomi's brand is strong in India — the Chinese company captured 17 percent of the Indian smartphone market last quarter, according to figures from IDC, placing it second behind Samsung’s 24 percent. The two top-selling phones in that period were Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4, helping t

WhatsApp Business has reportedly made it to India

Image
The past few months have seen lot of buzz about  WhatsApp  launching a separate app for businesses. Earlier this week, the Facebook-owned messaging app too confirmed that it will be verifying business accounts with a green tick badge showing next to its name. The verification means that the company has confirmed the phone number of the account to a business account. The FAQ page also mentions that it will let users know when they can start chatting to the business account via a yellow message inside a chat. It has also been mentioned that, "there is no way to delete these messages from the chat." WhatsApp says that if users already have a business's phone number saved in their address book, the name they see in the name the business has chosen for themselves. Users can also block the business if they don't want to contact them. According to a news report by Factor Daily, WhatsApp has started testing its business feature in India with online ticket booking se

Worthy IPhone 8 rivals

Image
IPHONE 8 At a rumored US$1,400 sale price the coming iPhone 8 likely will test just how much people are willing to pay for a new phone particularly, how much parents are willing to fork over for their kids. While iPhone once conveyed status and sense of luxury, similar to a brand like Cadillac, pretty much everyone has an iPhone today. The first few customers who get their hands on the latest model will be envied for about a week , but the phones will becom extremely common by the end of the first month. Interestingly, there are some phones that may have more status than the iPhone, and they likely will have one or two advantages over it, including price. Hydrogen One The Hydrogen One won't show up until early 2018, but it may be worth waiting for. I'm excited because it is coming from the company that created the Red Camera, which costs around $50K and is used in movies like  Transformers  and  Guardians of the Galaxy . With a price that is expected t

Reliance JioFi Dominates Data Card Market With 91 Percent Share

Image
Reliance JioFi Reliance Retail's JioFi continued to dominate data card segment with a market share of 91 percent - leaving Huawei far behind at three percent - during the second quarter of calendar year 2017. The huge lead was attributed to the launch of consecutive free data services by   Reliance Jio   followed by availability of Mi-Fi data cards at different prices, according to a report by CyberMedia Research (CMR) released on Thursday. MiFis driven by Jio have gained acceptance in tier-2 and tier-3 cities and towns, which could result in erosion of potential broadband base for operators like   BSNL . "Reliance Jio's Mi-Fi devices (JioFi) have also impacted home router market. Our initial statistics from the channels suggest a decline of 60-70 percent sales in major cities," said Narinder Kumar, Analyst, Industry Intelligence Practice, CMR, in a statement. The other players were confined to limited market share, like ZTE (three percent) and
