The full screen design craze has gotten to the point where displays have covered all the blank bezels and are now pushing up against functional elements like the front camera. That’s the case for the Essential phone, the upcoming iPhone 8 and – going by this patent – the future Galaxy S and Note devices.
The patent drawings show the display coming right up to the edge of the phone with a small cutout to leave room for the front camera, earpiece and assorted sensors. The cutout doesn’t seems as extreme as Essential’s or even the iPhone’s.
 
This patent was filed in South Korea on May 2016 – well before the designs of the other two became public. Does that mean that the Galaxy S9 will sport the “display cutout” look? It’s possible, but we wouldn’t bet the house on it – Samsung also patented an S Pen with a breathalyzer - sometimes patents are filed just in case.

[RUMOR ]'Made in India' iPhone SE 2 to Launch in Early 2018

Apple  at its earnings call earlier this month revealed that the iPhone SE had a big hand in the double digit growth in iPhone sales in India this last quarter. Sharp announces phone with 120hz screen

Sharp has announced the Aquos R Compact, a smaller model in its Aquos R range of smartphones. Unlike the others in the series, the Aquos R Compact has a different, more of an edge-to-edge display design similar to the company's previous smartphones. The Aquos R Compact has a 4.9-inch, 2032x1080 resolution IGZO LCD. Apart from the fact that it goes right up to the edges on the top, has curved corners and notch in the center for the front camera, the display has 120Hz refresh rate that is twice as fast as almost every other smartphone display. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It also has a 16.4 megapixel camera on the back and an 8 megapixel camera on the front. The software is Android 8.0 Oreo with EMOPA 7.0. Running the whole thing is a 2500mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0.
